Chad Garneau is the Weekend Meteorologist for FOX16 News and has the Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society (AMS). He joined FOX16 in July of 2010 after serving as the weekday morning meteorologist at KTXS-TV in Abilene, Texas.

During his time at KTXS, Chad covered one of the worst floods in the area’s history, providing up to the minute storm coverage. Living in Abilene allowed Chad to forecast just about every type of weather, from floods to droughts, to tornadoes and snow. The Abilene Reporter News named Chad the 2nd best meteorologist in the market during 2010.

Chad’s fascination with weather began at a very young age. At age 10, a National Geographic special on tornadoes and severe weather provided the spark that led him down the path to a career in meteorology.

“I literally watched the same tornado special report hundreds of times,” says Chad. “The complex mixture of elements that go into making a storm appear still intrigues me to this day. I’m one of the lucky few who can honestly say they are passionate about the job they do.”

Chad’s love of weather took him to the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. While studying, Chad chased tornadoes in the heart of Tornado Alley, providing unique and valuable experience that still helps him in his career today.

Chad hails from Waterford, Michigan, approximately 50 miles north of Detroit. Outside of forecasting the weather, Chad enjoys working out, listening to music and watching football. He and his wife Brittney were married in July 2011.
