An American Idol judge wants to help people dealing with type 2 diabetes. Randy Jackson was diagnosed with the disease in 2003.

He says he didn't even know he had it until a visit to the emergency room with skyrocketing blood sugar was diagnosed.

Now he's working with Merck on a website where type 2 diabetics can hear his own story and get tips to help them keep healthy.

Jackson says the disease is life-long but it is manageable.

“I think probably the easiest thing for me was trying to realize that I could still eat some of the foods I liked, but I had to have them portion controlled so maybe it was a third of something I liked instead of a big plate of it," Jackson said.
