Kris Allen gives credit to Arkansas for winning

FOX16's Kevin Kelly followed Kris in Hollywood from before the final performance to the crowning moment.  He also talked with Kris just moments after Ryan Seacrest named him the new American Idol.

Call it an upset, a come from behind shocker, whatever you want, Arkansas' humble Kris and his legions of followers came through big time. 

"You guys did it. Arkansas did it, Arkansas is probably the reason that I'm here," Kris said.

Dazed, exhausted and yes shocked, the new American Idol was in high demand.  But before making the rounds with the media his first stop was in the arms of his extended family, the top 10 finalists.

"I'm just so proud of Kris," Matt Giraud said. "He's such a humble guy, great person, great musician, true artist and I can't wait to hear his single on the radio in a couple months."

"I am so proud of him. I'm proud of him," Lil Rounds said. "I was screaming my head off. I'm still trying to collect myself cause I was out there going ballistic but I mean he's a great guy he deserves it."

As for Adam, in typical Kris Allen fashion, he had nothing but praise for the flamboyant rocker who even Kris thought would win.

When asked what he said to Adam after the finale, Kris said, “Me and Adam are really good friends and I think we hugged each other and he told me 'Dude you deserved this' and I shot it right back at him cause he does, he totally deserves this."

It was a long and exhausting night but Kris did it and before the new American Idol was whisked away he knew exactly what to say to his fans at home.  “Arkansas, thank you so much for everything and the tour is going to be fun so I'm glad that's its going to be packed out. It's going to be a blast so be ready."
