Layoffs, furloughs, and companies going out of business. In this recession, many are now suddenly without a job. That's why Goodwill Industries held a career fair Monday.

Gracie Eason is looking for a job. She used to own a trucking company, until the economy bottomed out. She then got a job with another company. All was well for almost a year and then the down economy struck again.

"I worked for that company for eight months then they decided to lay the whole sales team off, " said Eason.

Without a job, Gracie says she's definitely ready to work again. "It's really hard," she said. "I'm used to a set income."

As soon as Gracie heard about the Goodwill career fair, she decided she had nothing to lose.

Goodwill offers unique opportunities

There are 26 businesses with dozens of job openings. Some companies are even hiring on the spot. Little Caesars hired ten people Monday.

Goodwill President and CEO, Brian Itzkowitz says the best part about Goodwill is they train. "With Goodwill, if you don't have a GED or computer skills you can come to Goodwill," he explained. "We will get you the training you need and find you a job you're ultimately looking for."

Gracie is open to most jobs, but in a down economy she's a little scared of taking on another sales job. "I'm a people person; I love people and have never met a stranger. I have skills to offer any company."

Some of the hiring companies at the career fair include Cintas, Remedy Staffing, AARP and the City of Little Rock.

Revenue generated through the sale of donated items at Goodwill retail stores pays for programs like the career fair
