JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — Unilever says it will spend $40 million to expand its plant in Jonesboro and add 125 jobs.

Tuesday's announcement will bring the total number of workers at the plant to 525, once the expansion is complete.

The $64 million hair-care products plant was built by Alberto Culver and opened in 2008. Unilever PLC recently completed its purchase of Alberto Culver.

Gov. Mike Beebe says he met with Unilever's leadership in 2009 during a trade mission to Europe and discussed business opportunities in Arkansas.

The factory produces brands that include TRESemme, Nexxus, Noxzema, St. Ives, Just for Me, Soft & Beautiful and Motions. The company's ethnic hair care products are made exclusively in Jonesboro.

The plant is located in the Craighead Technology Park.
