Widower of Albert Pike flood victim sues Forest Service

A man whose wife died in the 2010 flash flood at an Arkansas campground that claimed 20 lives has filed a civil suit against the U.S. Forest Service.

TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) — A man whose wife died in the 2010 flash flood at an Arkansas campground that claimed 20 lives has filed a civil suit against the U.S. Forest Service.

The lawsuit, filed this week in Texarkana, accuses the Forest Service of negligence including improperly constructing the campsite in a flood plain and failing to properly train park staff or implement a warning system.

The suit says Jerry McMaster went to the Albert Pike campground with his wife, Debra McMaster and their two young daughters to bike and fish. The suit says that early June 11, rising waters swept away Debra McMaster while her husband and two daughters clung to a tree.

A spokesman for the U.S. Forest Service says the agency does not comment on pending litigation.
