With the rest of the fall and winter holidays approaching, why not take some of the pain out of your holiday cooking. We put the Garlic Pro to the test. The makers say it'll dice whole garlic cloves, along with all sorts of other foods, in just seconds. But is it a deal or a dud?We went to the Purple Cow in Little Rock to test out this kitchen product. The Garlic Pro promises to make dicing as easy as the twist of a wrist and Karle is here to help us out.
Karle rips it open, as well as the garlic, and starts peeling, the professional way, "So you just put it underneath the knife, smack it down, and peel it off."
The assembly was easy, "The good thing is it already looks like it comes together."
The commercial says, "It consists of 20 stainless steel cutting blades and high impact odor resistant plastic."
Karle loads it up and starts twisting, but hits a roadblock. "What’s making it hard? Is it bunching up?" Sure is, but it’s not just that, "See, you've still got chunks like that in there."
On a scale of one to ten where ten is the highest for dicing garlic, Karle says “I'd give that a 5, I think its just ok."
Let’s move on to carrots and celery. "The garlic pro also says it dices carrots and celery, so we'll give that a shot."
But we ran into more of the same problems. "So if you dump that out you can see you've got some big pieces, some little pieces, so it's not really doing it evenly."
"Okay, so the garlic, the celery, and the carrots, didn't work so well, but it also says it makes dessert toppings so we're going to try some M&Ms and Oreos."
We popped in the cookies and candy, Karle twisted, and look at that, "So that seemed to be a pretty good success, at least it does that right."
“It's called the Garlic Pro, would you say it's a Deal or a Dud?” It didn't really do a good job on the garlic or the carrots. It did an okay job; I almost cut my finger, so I'd say it's probably a dud," says Karle.
Next week we put Betty Crocker Reuseable Clean Cookin' non stick oven liner to the test but is it a deal or dud? Fine out next Thursday on FOX16 News at 5:30.
