With unemployment up and the economy down, more and more people are looking to save money any way they can. So can a new product from Purex cut down on your grocery bill? It's the three-in-one complete laundry sheets: detergent, softener, and a dryer sheet. We put the Purex 3 in 1 to the deal or dud test.

Chase Bice is always on the lookout for labor free laundry. "Laundry is something that's necessary but I absolutely hate!"

He's a busy guy, always on the go, always looking for laundry shortcuts like the ones his mother taught him.

"She always told me to separate things and that if I didn't have enough time to just throw everything in with cold water and that it would be ok," says Bice. "What I don't understand is why didn't someone think of this sooner?"

But not even mom came up with this.

"Introducing Purex Complete 3 in 1 laundry sheets. It's one sheet that has detergent, fabric softener and a dryer sheet all built into one."

The instructions say, "Use one laundry sheet for a regular load, use two laundry sheets for an extra large load."

"Smells nice," says Bice.

We tossed in some towels in the washer, popped in a Purex, set and go. A few minutes later, "Here's the sheet."

The detergent has washed out and all that's left is the softening dryer sheet.

"They do smell nice, they smell clean," says Bice.

The sheet and the towels go directly into the dryer. Once they are done, "Well it smells good."

While the fresh scent is noticeable instantly, Chase says it's the feel that's unfamiliar. Remember he never used softener before, "Because it took too much time."

But the 3 in 1 product has it built in it. Chase gets the softness and gets to skip a step. So in the end it's pretty obvious whether Chase sees the Purex 3 in 1 laundry sheets as a deal or a dud, "deal!"

If you think the Purex 3-in-1 sheets will be a deal for you, it's available at Walmart for $9.99 for the starter kit including the dispenser and 20 sheets, and $9.99 for 24 refill sheets.

Next Thursday it's time to head to the kitchen, as we put the Perfect Brownie Pan to the test. No more burnt brownies! The makers say the product will make the perfect brownie every time! but is it a deal or a dud? The answer next week on FOX16 News at 5:30.

Total dud. I purchased these about three months ago and noticed oily stains on my clothing from the first time I used them. So I stashed the remaining package of sheets under my sink. I found them two weeks ago and dcided to give them another go, this time in a load of bath towels. Two of the towels came out of the dryer with large blue stains on them, stains that smelled strongly of the softener stripe on the sheets. Unfortunately the softener stains have not come out in subsequent washings. If this product works for you, great. But I cannot recommend it to anyone. I have never had problems like these with my laundry before. They have ruined both clothing and towels.

At first I thought it was a deal. In the outcome it ruined several items of clothing when it must have gotten wrapped up and didn't dispense correctly. I have very large oil looking spots on some of my dress clothing.

We love this product!! And, it makes it much easier for the kids or even the hubby to help with the laundry....unfortunately mine previously mistook the softner for the detergent....so this eliminates any problems or over use. GREAT PRODUCT!! I first used this product while on vacation for simplicity and because of the simplicity and quality I have continued to use the product.

This product is great. I have been using it since July. The starter kit is $5.94 at Wal-Mart and there are always coupons in the Sunday paper. I would definitely say DEAL!!
