With ID theft becoming more and more common, people are looking for safer ways to shop online. The makers of the Smart Swipe say is could make shopping online, not only safer, but faster.

With every click, scroll and type there is a virtual record of your life. "Anything that is stored about you is stored on a computer. Your medical history, your spending history, even browsing history of where you browse on the internet."

IT expert Ron Williams says it all comes from computers. He's in the business of keeping big businesses safe. "Newer security standards or more features."

Today he's poised to help protect your personal purchases. "Shopping on the internet is almost as secure and shopping in person."

But a new device promises to add one more safety measure into the mix. The makers of the Smart swipe say when shopping online and entering your credit card information, “Don't type it.. Swipe it!”

"It sits between you and you and the browser as a hardware device and it keeps you from having to type in your credit card number," Williams said

Their $100 USB powered credit card reader is designed to add an extra layer of protection by taking the typing out of the transaction. And while it's advertised to be "immune" to hackers, "I don't think there's any device that is IMMUNE," Williams said.

Those who make it say while nothing is 100% safe- the Smart Swipe is as close to impenetrable as you can get because it encrypts your card number before it ever reaches your computer.

Your card number is never revealed. Set up is simple. Once the software is downloaded and installed, Smart Swipe checks to make sure the site you are shopping on is authentic. And since all you have to do it swipe, it cuts down on the time it usually takes to enter information manually.

In fact, with the Smart Swipe in place you are blocked from entering your credit card information on screen. Commercial says: "Smart Swipe it's finally safe to shop on line."

But what does Ron think? "I think it's a deal- I think it has some limitations but I think it's a deal- nothing is 100% from hackers."

Again we want to remind you that for the most part on line shopping is safe and secure...but the smart swipe though does take the typing out of the equation and that can keep you even safer. If you think the smart swipe will be a deal for you, you can't get it in stores, but you can get it on Amazon.com for $89.99 plus shipping.

The makers of the Purex 3-in-1 to the test. The makers say it'll cut down on your grocery bill and may take many steps out of washing your laundry, saving you lots of time. But is it a deal or a dud?
