Deal or Dud: Twin Draft Guard

It is still winter, and there will likely be a few more cold blasts before spring arrives. Many of us are looking to conserve energy and save on our home heating bills. The Twin Draft Guard promises to help you do just that. It's time to put it to the deal or dud test.

The simple 10 dollar product makes a big promise: "With Twin Draft Guard's double sided insulated design, your utility bills can be reduced by up to 30 percent."

The ads say it keeps the warm air in and cold air out by blocking gaps under doors and windows. For this deal or dud we mimicked the test in the ad.

First, the control test. "This is going to block on two sides and supposedly its going to move smoothly with the door. Cut the tube to fit your door. Insert the tubes into the cover. All you have to do is slide the Twin Draft guard under the door, hook and loop the fastener so it stays on the door when you open and shut it and that's it!"

Some air still got through after installing the Twin Draft Guard, but a lot less!

But what about Twin Draft Guard's claim it can fit any window, interior or exterior door up to 36 inches and work on any surface? "The only warning I would give is, say you had an area rug in front of the door, you are not going to be able to get the door open without the rug getting in the way," says our tester Michelle.

For the most part, it lived up to it's promise so, "I'm going to call the Twin Draft Guard a deal," says Michelle.

Now we can't promise a huge drop in your bill, but it may keep you a little bit warmer throughout the rest of this winter, and for many winters to come. If you think the Twin Draft Guard will be a deal for you, you can get it at Bed Bath and Beyond for just $9.99, or on their official website for $19.99 plus shipping, and get Two Draft Guards, plus bonus over the door hooks!

I purchased this when it first came out and was a lot cheaper than they are now. I experience less draft but not fully but the some helps. As the other customer said it tends to pull out and have to be pushed back under the door. I just use my foot to push it back and close the door. It is useful and helpful. Of course, it did not fit on a door that had once been trimmed for a carpet. The gap was too large and I had one door that it was too short even though it had not been trimmed but the door is an old door from way back when they made larger doors. I would buy again..It's a deal..

I have had these under my doors since they first came out and I can really tell the difference. Really keeps the drafts down, plus as a bonus it keeps my carpet clean where the back door scrapes across it. I definitely think it's a deal!

I wouldn't think it would work too well on doors with a metal/rubber threshold.

What they don't tell you is that over time the draft guard slides out from under the door just enough that you have to slide it back under the door. I had one when I lived in an apartment. Every couple days I would have to reposition it under the door. I guess it works as long as you don't mind having to reposition it every couple days.
