Toyota, the world's number one auto-maker is suspending U.S. sales of eight recalled vehicle models to fix accelerator pedals that could stick.  A few months ago the automaker recalled roughly four million Toyotas because of problems with gas pedals getting trapped under floor mats.

Toyota is suspending sales of the following vehicles:
  • Camry
  • Corolla
  • Avalon
  • Tundra
  • Highlander
  • Matrix
  • Rav4
  • Sequoia

This is a massive safety recall, but even if your car is on the list it may not be affected.

"It's not every car, they need to get the car inspected, and we are glad to do it, just bring it out, and we'll take a look at it, and see if it's one of the affected pedals or not," said Steve Landers Jr. with Lander's Toyota.

That's exactly what Krista Huddleton is doing with her Highlander.  "I just want to have it inspected, just to be on the safe side, I have a child and want to be cautious," Huddleton said.

"Toyota's working extremely hard to get the problem fixed, they are being proactive, so that all customers will be safe," said Steve Landers Jr.

Analysts say Toyota needs to find a solution fast because there reputation could be on the line.  A company spokes-person says Toyota is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to pedal problems.  But the auto-maker is not ruling out the possibility.

Toyota is covering up the fact that the actual problem is the programming in the engine control unit computer plus intermittent faults in the gas pedal position sensor which is part of the throttle-by-wire control. The problem is not that the pedal is getting stuck in the floormat as they've reported. People have had unintended acceleration problems with their Toyotas when the floor mats have been completely removed. Do some research thru Google to find out more!
