LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Lawmakers are holding off on recommending the amount of per-student money Arkansas schools should receive from the state.
The House and Senate Education committees on Tuesday voted to recommend the per-student amount by Nov. 1. The panels adopted a report on how to adequately fund the state's public schools but left out the funding recommendation.
The vote came a day after lawmakers withdrew their recommendation to increase the amount of per-student money schools receive by $69 million. Several members of the committee say they need more time to study how much of an inflationary increase the schools need.
Gov. Mike Beebe's office has said he's told lawmakers more time was needed to study the impact of an increase on the state's budget and schools.
