LITTLE ROCK, AR - In a special meeting Wednesday night, the Pulaski County Special School District approved a fiscal distress plan to present to the Arkansas Board of Education. The school board also agreed on a plan to move forward after a judges ruling to discontinue desegregation funds.

Judge Miller made the decision to cut off $70 million in state funding to Pulaski County, Little Rock, and North Little Rock school districts. In the meeting Wednesday night, the PCSSD board made the decision to pursue an appeal to the judges ruling, and also request funding not be cut until an appeal is made.

Along with the North Little Rock School District, PCSSD has been placed on the Arkansas Board of Education’s fiscal distress list. The board discussed and approved a plan to present to the board Thursday, May 26th that addresses the issues brought up in a recent legislative audit to streamline the district’s finances, reduce spending, and become more fiscally prudent.

The next legislative meeting with the PCSSD board is June 10th. Then, the school board will go before the Arkansas Board of Education and discuss the fiscal distress status on June 13th. The next regularly scheduled PCSSD board meeting is June 14th.
