Kelly Dudzik: "I'm here with Bret Curry with the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas to help you save money on your energy bill. What does the majority of your energy bill go towards?"
Bret Curry: "Kelly, if we would look at a pie chat and see where our dollars are spent, we would see that number one is heating and cooling, and in Arkansas, we're a predominantly cooling climate, and obviously, today, it's going to get up to 100 degrees, so people are going to spend a lot of money on keeping their homes cool."
Kelly Dudzik: "And when you fire up your AC, you want to make sure you're not throwing your money out the window, let's check this filter out, because I know you're supposed to change them. How often are you supposed to change your filters?"
Bret Curry: "Well, normally if you don't remember the last time you changed it, you probably need to change it, but most of the time, we tell people as needed. But, you can see that this filter has a lot of dust on it, and so it needs to be changed out, and always remember that your system can not push any more air through it than it can take in."
Kelly Dudzik: "So this one's blocked and this person is really losing money right now."
Bret Curry: "Absolutely. They could be. Their system is not operating as efficiently as it could. So it's a simple fix. Just reach in here and pull out the old filter and take a look on the new filter where the little arrow is, it always wants to be pointing inward, and just simply put it back in there."
Kelly Dudzik: "How much will one of these filters cost you? Where can you get one?"
Bret Curry: "Most of these filters are between 75 cents and a dollar. It's a cheap and affordable fix for every homeowner."
