LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Replacing old appliances when they go out with energy efficient ones is what Arkansas Electric Cooperatives advise homeowners to do.
"The energy star models have better seals. They have better compressors," said spokesperson Bret Curry, "The consumption today of an energy star appliance uses about 50 percent less energy than its counterpart."
Buyers should look for a logo when shopping for an energy star appliance.
Professionals say a lot of people put their old refrigerators in their garages or storage areas. But they say don't do that because your old refrigerator is still using a lot of energy, wasting your money.
