LITTLE ROCK, AR -- The Arkansas Electric Cooperatives uses a blower door machine to help keep homes cool in the summer for consumers.
"This will simulate 20 mph winds on every square foot of a house. We are able to quantify the amount of air infiltration or leakage of a particular house," said spokesperson Bret Curry.
Professionals say a well built energy efficient home has about 20 to 30 percent leakage. Curry says for homeowners with numbers above that should use a very simple solution.
"One of the best tips and one of the most affordable tips is a caulking gun and a tube of caulk. We always have a saying, when in doubt, caulk it," said Curry.
