Little Rock, AR - Smoking cigarettes. It's not healthy and not easy to quit. It's also costly and i'm not talking about how much smokers dish out for a pack of Marlboro's.
According to a report by the Arkansas Department of Health Tobacco use costs Arkansans nearly 812 million dollars a year, including 242 million in state-funded medicaid and health care costs and 1.4 billion dollars in lost productivity costs.
That's a lot of money and with medical costs soaring some employers continue to look for new ways to get smokers to kick the habit such as offering wellness programs or forcing them to pay higher health premiums.
But in Bakers, California an employer is offering smokers cold hard cash.
A bonus of 500 bucks to any employee who quits for three months.
They do random checks. So is it a good idea? Is it worth it? Or is the anti-smoking policies of some businesses an infringement of worker's rights?
