ACH Donations

Arkansas Children’s Hospital gets a 2.2 million dollar donation through the estate of Thomas Stephens.

A friend says Stephens has always had interest in improving children’s healthcare and was amazed at the work done at Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Stephens, who passed away last October, made the donation through stock gifts, life insurance, and a bequest.

The money will fund several programs including vascular anomalies, cleft lip and palate, dental and ophthalmology, as well as the angel one transport program.

Filling and Kids Behavior

Kids with certain types of dental fillings may be more likely to have psychological problems.

Harvard researchers found children who got tooth-colored fillings made with BPA derivatives had higher rates of anxiety, depression and social stress, compared to kids with fillings made from metal or other materials.

The authors caution their results don't prove BPA causes any behavioral changes.

Alzheimer’s Medicine

For the first time, researchers are reporting that a treatment might help stabilize Alzheimer's disease for as much as three years, although the evidence is weak and in only four patients.

The drug is Gammagard.

Doctors say that four patients who have been receiving the highest dose for three years showed no decline on memory and cognition tests.

A dozen others on different doses or shorter treatment times didn't fare as well.

This study was far too small to prove the treatment works, but a more rigorous one involving 400 patients will give results within a year.
