A U.S. Government panel recommends doctors ask patients about their alcohol drinking habits and provide counseling if they feel the need.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force says screening and intervention can help adults who drink more than the recommended amount cut back.

Screening and intervention for pregnant women is also in the new statement.

Prostate Cancer Myths

September is prostate cancer awareness month.

And when it comes to screening and treatment of prostate cancer there are several myths out there.

Doctor Eric Klein is a prostate cancer expert.

He says one myth that needs busting is how valuable a blood test called prostate-specific-antigen (PSA) is for some men.

The other myth is that if your PSA is above a certain range you definitely have prostate cancer and that's not correct.

There are other conditions including non-cancerous prostate enlargement that can cause higher PSA.

So a biopsy is the only way to know for sure.

Safe Sleep for Babies

For years, parents have been urged to place healthy babies on their backs to sleep.

This is said to protect the children from dying of sudden infant death syndrome or SIDS.

But Cleveland Clinic doctor Skyler Kalady says the protective measures don't stop there.

Doctor Kalady says the national institute's of health's "safe to sleep" campaign has helped significantly decrease the number of SIDS deaths.
