Swine flu vaccine
Tests are underway for the swine flu vaccine. Drug maker Glaxo says it plans to conduct 16 clinical trials on more than 9,000 people in Europe and North America. Glaxo started its first trial in Germany with more than 100 people. Results are expected as early as next month. This comes as Arkansas health officials are releasing the name of the state's first swine flu victim. 56-year-old Linda Blocker of Hot Spring County was exposed to the illness from a relative who was receiving treatment for the sickness.



Sleeping and health
Scientists have discovered a gene that can help mothers function on only six hours of sleep. Researchers in California studied genes related to how and when woman sleep. Scientists found two women who harbor a mutation in a gene that regulates your body's clock. This mutation allowed them to only sleep six hours with out any health problems. The National Institutes of Health says adults need seven hours to nine hours of sleep for good health.


Doctor on Call: Genital Herpes

Q: Michelle from North Little Rock wants to know, if a person has genital herpes, what are the chances of giving it to another person if you use protection and have no breakouts?


A: Dr. Oksana melnyk from baptist health family clinic says many couples have had sexual relations for years without transmitting herpes. Some simply avoid having sexual contact when signs or symptoms are present, while others use condoms or other protection between outbreaks. If you take the necessary precautions, the chances of getting the virus from your partner are small.
