Autism and Stem Cells

An FDA clinical trial is underway in California to see if autism can be treated with cord blood stem cells.

The trial will enroll 30 autistic children between the ages of two and seven.

Kids will receive two infusions one from the child's own cord blood stem cells and one placebo over a 13-month period.

Researchers will evaluate the ability of an infusion of cord blood stem cells to help improve language and behavior.

After School Safety

As we kick off a new school year it's important for parents to create a plan to help keep your kids safe after school.

Doctors at the Cleveland Clinic say children should be instructed to take the same way home every day.

This way if they're not home on time, an adult can backtrack and look for them.

Doctors also say one of the easiest steps you can take is to create a secret word.

Obesity and the poor

Obesity is the biggest risk factor for type two diabetes among the poor.

Researchers studied more than seven thousand people.

Their socio-economic status was assessed through job position, education, salary and social status.

Those in the lowest job positions were nearly twice as likely to develop diabetes.

Researchers say behaviors such as smoking, drinking and body mass index accounted for more than half the difference in cases.
