Arkansans seeking professional counseling have a new option.

The Baptist Health Counseling Center will begin offering service on December 3.

The center will be led by Doctor Charles Chamblee, a professionally licensed and fully accredited counselor.

Just a few of the services include personal counseling, marriage and family sessions, grief counseling - and spiritual direction.

The cost per one-hour session will be $75 with the number of sessions determined by the client-counselor relationship.

Retired Army Staff Sergeant Brian Sullivan isn't alone in his battle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Veterans Affairs estimates more than half of new veterans are seeking treatment for war-related mental disorders.

"I was always getting angry, I had outbursts with my wife and I was having difficulties sleeping," Sullivan said.

So Sullivan turned to something called prolonged exposure coach.

It's a unique smartphone app designed by the defense department to help soldiers recover from PTSD.

They listen to recordings of their own therapy sessions to help them re-live and therefore overcome their fears.

Therapists use the same program, to help keep soldiers on track by monitoring their progress.

It’s an emerging trend where technology can help reduce post-combat stress.

Today, Sullivan feels more confident, controlling stressful triggers and participating in activities he once avoided.

"I'm starting to get control of my life again," Sullivan said.

He says it's been a long road to recovery but for the first time, he is starting to see results.

"You're getting to understand what went wrong and that you don't have anything wrong, its just you're not the average person," Sullivan said.
