Celiac Disease

The latest "food fad" might be more beneficial than initially thought.

Gluten-free eating might provide relief for a digestive disorder called Celiac Disease.

New research finds nearly 1.5 million Americans unknowingly suffer from the disease.

It can lead to bloating, stomach pain, and diarrhea, and even more serious complications.

The treatment for those with Celiac's is to eliminate gluten from their diet.

Health officials say it is ok to be on a gluten-free diet even if you do not have celiac disease.

Depression and the heart

Mild depression or anxiety may raise your risk of dying from cardiovascular disease.

After eight years of research doctors concluded even mild depression raised the risk of heart disease deaths by nearly 30%.

And the greater the level of distress, the higher the odds of death.

Researchers say more studies are needed now to see if treating mild depression may reduce the risk for heart problems.

Smiling stress reliever

Doctors say one way to reduce stress and anxiety is as easy as this: just smile more!

Psychologists at the University of Kansas measured stress levels through heart measurements and self-reported stress levels.

The team discovered those who wore any kind of smile appeared to have less stress.

Even smiles worn by people explicitly instructed to hold chopsticks in their mouth forcing their face to smile.

Study authors say their findings show even forcing a smile during an unpleasant task may make it a bit easier to take.
