Child CT scans

Researchers say radiation from repeated ct scans could increase a child's risk of leukemia.

The study found children under 15 years of age who had two or three scans of the head had three times the risk of developing brain cancer.

Five to 10 scans also tripled the risk of leukemia.

The risk of either is already extremely low.

So even tripled, researchers say it's only a small increase.

At least four million kids in the U.S. undergo CT scans every year.

Kidney Stone risks

Dietitians say some simple changes to your diet may help you reduce the risk of developing a kidney stone.

Doctors at the Cleveland Clinic say decreasing the amount of sodium in your diet will help decrease your kidney stone risk.

Drinking a lot of dark-colored carbonated beverages actually ups the risk.

And also cranberries, spinach, and dried beans add to your risk of developing kidney stones.

Teen depression treatment

Teens with major depression who receive and respond to treatment are less likely to abuse drugs later in life.

The duke university study found 10% of participants whose depression lessened after treatment, later abused drugs, compared to 25% of those who did not respond to treatment.

Researchers also found alcohol abuse lead to repeat battles with depression for some of the participants.
