It's spring break and Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock is seeing more fractures because our children are spending more time outside.

A fracture is a partial or complete break in the bone.

Here are the symptoms:
  • pain in the injured area
  • swelling
  • an obvious deformity
  • difficulty using or moving the injured area in a normal manner
  • warmth, bruising, or redness in that injured area
If your child is showing any of these symptoms, let the doctor check them out, and remind them to be careful.

In other health headlines, if you're pregnant and taking vitamin D, it probably won't affect your child's bone health later in life.

British researchers measured vitamin D levels in nearly four-thousand women during pregnancy, then assessed the bone mineral density of their children when they were about 12-years old.

The team found no significant association between a mother's vitamin D levels during pregnancy and their child's bone mineral density.

Despite that, it's still suggested you take vitamin D during pregnancy.

And an alarming statistic this morning from the Alzheimer's Association. One in three seniors will die with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia.

In fact, Alzheimer's disease is now the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. It is the only leading cause of death without a way to - prevent- cure - or even slow its progression.

In this new report, Alzheimer's Association researchers say dementia is the second largest contributor to death behind heart failure and 61-percent of people who are in their 70's and living with Alzheimer's disease, are expected to die within the next 10 years.

Doctors say reading, board games, or even video games are cognitive activities and can help slow down the onset of Alzheimer's or dementia.
