A statewide effort to collect expired prescription drugs - produces it's biggest result yet.

The record-breaking 5th "Drug Take-Back Day" on September 29th brought in over 12-thousand pounds of unwanted or expired medications.

The DEA cites prescription drugs lying around in homes as a leading cause of underage drug abuse.

Arkansas started the drug-take back program two years ago.

In that time, the state has disposed of nearly 66 million pills.

UAMS grant extension

UAMS has received a five-year grant extension worth more than 5.5 million dollars to study health disparities among racial and ethnic groups.

The research will focus on chronic diseases, including obesity, long-term disability, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer.

UAMS says Arkansas consistently ranks among the worst in the nation in health indicators and health disparities.

Osteoarthritis

While it may be tough to stop the progression of osteo-arthritis, there are ways to slow its progression.

The condition affects your joints.

However despite what many believe, it's not only your age that plays a role in developing it.

Excess weight puts added stress on your joints and cartilage every time we sit, kneel, stand, or walk.

So it's another reason to keep your weight under control.

Doctor Husni says non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications can ease the pain of osteoarthritis.

But she says simply moving or lightly exercising your joints can help, too.
