A new government survey says a lot of people end up in the emergency room after consuming energy drinks.

In fact, the survey says the number of people who go for emergency treatment after consuming energy drinks has doubled nationwide in the past four years.

It says during that same period, the supercharged drink industry has surged in popularity.

The report calls energy drink consumption a "rising public health problem."

"I was drinking the five-hour energy drinks a lot, but I decrease it, because I noticed they were triggering headaches in me."

"They come in with palpitations, they come in with chest discomfort, they come in feeling short of breath."

The government survey says energy drinks can cause insomnia, nervousness, headache, fast heartbeat and seizures severe enough to require emergency care.

Women & knee pain

For middle-aged women, knee pain is a common complaint. Here are some tips for treating that pain.

Women with knee pain know how miserable and debilitating it can truly be.

When women are younger, they tend to get more tendonitis or irritation issues around the knee and then as they age, especially when they accumulate previous injuries, it may lead to arthritis and further changes.

The American College of Rheumatology says nearly two-thirds of women ages fifty and older have some degree of knee pain - it may come and go, or stick around. Osteoarthritis is often to blame.

Women are more at risk for arthritis than men are, and specifically, when women go through menopause, we think that estrogen may have some protective effect on cartilage of the knee.

But sometimes the pain is due to over-use injuries.

So how do you know what the best treatment is? See your primary doctor to start determining the cause. He or she may need to send you to a specialist.

Discuss options like acetaminophen or anti-inflammatory medications with your doctor.

Also don't forget to use exercise as medicine. Do exercises that strengthen the muscles around the knee.

You may also need physical therapy.

Avoid high-impact exercises, instead, focus on low-impact ones.

Keep in mind- weight is also a leading cause of knee pain.

Eating to lose weight

You know the feeling. It’s not even close to the end of the day and you are hungry again.

Temptation is everywhere and it comes in many shapes and sizes.

So how do you stop yourself from giving in and wrecking your healthy diet?

Registered dietitian Marisa more says the key to this is, in one word, balance.

“If you're getting the right combination of nutrients-you're getting your carbohydrates, your fiber, your protein, it actually helps you to feel more satisfied and that can help you to eat fewer calories throughout the entire day.”

Experts recommend protein at every meal- from foods like fish, lean meat, chicken, beans, nuts, tofu or Greek yogurt.

And but don't forget the whole grains.
