Governor Beebe has declared October 5th as "Go Pink for the Cure Day" in the state of Arkansas.

The event is aimed at spreading the life-saving message of early detection.

Businesses and citizens are encouraged to "Go Pink" by dressing in pink - and decorating businesses in pink.

It all leads up to this year's Race for the Cure.

Arkansas' largest Komen event is Saturday, October 20th in downtown Little Rock.

This year's theme "Run As One" encourages every one to pull together as one unit to fight the disease.

Pink Energy Drinks

Five Hour Energy introduces a new pink lemonade flavor.

The makers are joining the battle against breast cancer.

From now until December 31st, a portion of each sale of these pink lemonade five hour drinks will be donated to the Avon Foundation for Women's Breast Cancer Crusade.

Given that more than 9 million bottles of all versions of 5-hour energy are sold per week, the company's donation could result in a very large check delivered to the cause.

UAMS Downs Syndrome Studies

UAMS researchers say they have found a clue - in the high rate of fractures in Down Syndrome patients.

Doctors focused on differences in the normal process of bone production and removal.

They found in Downs Syndrome, the process appears to slow down.

The body is not making new bone fast enough, or getting rid of older, more fragile bone rapidly enough.

With osteoporosis, doctors say, in many cases the bone loss is occurring too fast, leading to bone weakness.
