Kids antibiotics

American children are taking fewer antibiotics but more drugs for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

That's coming from an FDA report.

Antibiotic prescriptions declined by 14-percent over the course of the study, though they are still the most prescribed medicine for young people.

ADHD prescriptions jumped by almost 50%.

For this, experts point to increased diagnosis and better medicines.

Human population weight

A new study finds if the entire human population stepped on a scale the weight would be 316 tons.

Or 632 billion pounds.

Overweight people in the world carry a total of sixteen million tons of extra weight.

That's equivalent of 242 million normal weight people.

Also North America has the highest body mass of any continent.

This study is important because the more mass people in the world have, the higher their energy needs will be.

Hotel room bacteria

There's not much difference between television remotes and toilets when it comes to levels of bacterial contamination in U.S. hotel rooms.

A University of Houston study looked at samples collected from 19 surfaces in three hotel rooms in three states.

TV remotes, bedside lamp switches, toilets and bathroom sinks have the highest levels of bacteria.

The study also found the lowest levels of contamination on bed headboards, curtain rods and bathroom door handles.
