Male birth control

A male birth control pill may be closer to development than ever before.

Scientists tested a compound called "JQ1" in mice and found it disrupts sperm development.

The mice began producing fewer sperm and the ones they did produce didn't swim well - rendering them infertile

Not to worry fellas - it's only temporary.

Normal sperm production resumed after discontinuing use.

You can't go buy them yet, it's not even a candidate for human use.

But it does offer a blueprint for the development of a drug.

More friends, better life

Having a wide circle of friends helps middle-aged men and women have a greater sense of well-being.

Researchers studied more than 6500 people.

They were asked how many friends and relatives they met up with - once a month or more.

The team assessed mental health at age 42 -- and well-being at age 50.

Doctors found those who had ten or more regular contacts with friends and family had a better sense of well-being.

In addition, for men - the more relatives they were in contact with, the better they felt.

That was not the case for women.

Tattoo ink infections

The CDC is encouraging doctors to keep track of any skin or soft tissue infections seen on people with tattoos.

And report them to the FDA.

The CDC says contaminated tattoo ink caused at least 22 skin infections in four states last year.

The agency has not identified the four companies implicated in the CDC investigation.

But the bacteria reportedly got into containers when the manufacturer used distilled or reverse-osmosis water which is not necessarily sterile.
