Mexican health grant

UAMS' College of Public Health and the Mexican Consulate in Little Rock received 50 thousand dollars today from the Susan G. Komen foundation.

The grant money will provide health education, screening programs and referrals to more than 30 thousand consulate visitors.

According to the American Cancer Society, Hispanics are the largest minority group in the country with more than 15 percent of the population.

That number is projected to triple by 2050.

The Susan G. Komen foundation is awarding a total of 200 thousand dollars to programs at Mexican consulates in little rock, San Diego, Dallas and San Antonio.

Less sitting, better health

Spending less time sitting down could help you live longer.

That's according to a new study in the British medical journal.

Researchers say reducing your sitting time to less than three hours a day could tack on an extra two years to your life.

And limiting TV time to two hours a day could add on more than a year.

However, researchers say their findings do not prove that being a couch potato will cause you to die younger.
