Morning after pill

The New York Times is reporting scientific evidence shows the morning after pill does not work the way many people think it does.

Science experts say the pill just delays ovulation.

But, labels on the pill bottles say they block fertilized eggs from implanting in a woman's uterus.

The descriptions caused some religious groups, conservative politicians and others to claim the pills cause abortion.

Arthritis and Weather

Doctors say there is no scientific proof your arthritis will flare up either before or after it rains.

However, doctors at the Cleveland Clinic advise people to pay close attention to the weather report.

If you think your joints swell when it rains or when the air pressure drops, you might want to wear gloves - or something that will kind of shield you from the cold and the dampness.

Counting Calories

People who restrict their caloric intake in an effort to live longer have hearts that function more like people twenty years younger.

Researchers hooked portable heart monitors to 22 people who ate healthy diets but consumed 30 percent fewer calories than normal.

They also studied 20 other people who ate standard western diets.

The team discovered people in the calorie restricted group had lower heart rates.
