New ADHD guidelines
Pre-schoolers can now be put on medications for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
The American Academy of Pediatrics has decided to broaden its guidelines for the disorder.
The new rules say that doctors can diagnose and treat kids aged 4 – 18 for ADHD.
Previously, the guidelines focused on kids between age 6 – 12.
Critics fear many young children will be misdiagnosed and receive unnecessary medications under the new rules.
Autism Birth Weight link
Researchers looked at more than 11,000 babies born. The babies weighed less than 4 pounds, 7 ounces when born.
Researchers found these babies were nearly five times more likely to meet the criteria for an autism spectrum disorder than children in the general population.
However, it’s unclear if low birth rate causes autism.
Cell phones and fecal matter
London researchers looked at hundreds of swab samples from cell phones.
They found that 16% were contaminated with the bacteria E.Coli, which comes from feces.
The study found that most of the cell phones had some kind of bacterial contamination on them.
Researchers say it’s likely because many people don’t was their hands after using the bathroom.
