UAMS receives over three million dollars in federal grant money.
The university hospital will use the funds to provide enhanced training for family caregivers in order to improve care for elderly patients in Arkansas.
These patients include Medicare recipients qualifying for home healthcare services, and Medicaid recipients who receive homemaker and personal care assistant services.
The money was made possible by the health care law - the Affordable Care Act.
Elder Abuse Awareness
Today is "World Elder Abuse Awareness Day."
Health officials say if you suspect someone is the victim of elder abuse, immediately notify Adult Protective Services, or the elderly person's medical provider.
There are an estimated six million cases of elderly abuse each year, and many of them go unreported.
