Many wonder if sexual addiction is a real addiction, but UCLA researchers may have proven it's real - and can make the lives of sufferers miserable.

Sex addiction, or hyper sexual disorder, is not yet classified as an illness by the American Psychiatric Association.

That could soon change.

The group released criteria for doctors to look out for.

The information can pave the way for people to go in and get treatment to help reduce these problems.

It's estimated at least 5% of Americans, mostly male, suffer from this disorder.

Bariatric surgery

Bariatric surgery can help keep your weight under control but it may also reduce risk factors for heart disease - and improve the heart's structure and function.

Researchers looked at 73 bariatric surgery and cardiovascular risk factor studies involving almost 20,000 people who had weight loss surgery.

63% saw their high blood pressure improve.

73%saw their diabetes improve.

And 65% had their cholesterol levels fall.

In addition, some saw a decrease in the thickness of the heart muscle - which is a risk factor for heart failure.

Preventing dog bites

Dogs bite more than 4.7 million Americans each year.

About 800,000 of those bites require medical attention.

But there are steps to help prevent dog bites.

If you're meeting a dog for the first time, give it space.

Let the dog come to you.

Turn your body to the side so that you look less threatening.

Put your hand in a fist and hold your hand down so the dog can sniff your fist.

Pet the animal on the back of the neck - or on it's back - and not the top of the head.
