The Arkansas Department of Health has been awarded over one million dollars from the CDC.
The money will be used over a three year period.
With the money, state health officials will be able to improve stroke victim transportation and enhance stroke care by hospitals
Arkansas ranked first among the states in the stroke death rate for five of the last ten years.
Swine Flu on the rise
The CDC reports cases of a new strain of swine flu are up dramatically in the last week.
The H3N2 virus is a mutated version of the h1n1 virus.
Only 29 cases had been reported since July of last year.
In the last week, the tally skyrocketed to 146.
So far there have been no reports of human to human transmissions.
All people infected had come into contact with pigs.
Swine flu resembles the seasonal flu, with most cases being mild and resolving on their own.
Back to School Vaccinations
It's back to school time, and during that back to school physical exam doctors are reminding college students about important vaccinations they need before they head back to class.
Ladies, if you haven't received the series of three HPV vaccines, doctors say you should do the catch-up shots.
