Qualchoice of Arkansas is providing expectant and new mothers with free mobile health information.
"Text4baby" is a free texting service available to everyone. Expectant mothers will receive three free text messages each week timed to their due date or baby's date of birth.
The free advice last from pregnancy through a baby's first year.
Expectant mothers can sign up for the service by texting BABY to 511411 (or BEBE for Spanish) to receive three free SMS text messages
Preschooler's health tied to TV watching
The amount of TV preschoolers watch appears to be a factor in their waist size and athletic abilities by the time they reach fourth grade.
Researchers studied the weekly TV habits of 1300 children. They also measured the kids waists and had them perform a standing long jump in order to assess their muscular fitness level.
They found the kids TV time grew as they aged and so did their waistlines.
Atherosclerosis discovery
There may be a new weapon in the battle against hardening of the arteries.
Scientists discover a molecule which may play a role in preventing plaque buildup. Doctors at the Cleveland Clinic learned that if your body lacks this molecule, your chances of developing atherosclerosis increase.
Atherosclerosis is the buildup of cholesterol and other deposits on the inner walls of the arteries.
The discovery could lead to new plaque-fighting drugs.
