Weight Loss Surgery

Obese people who undergo weight-loss surgery may be at greater risk for fractures three to five years after their operation.

Researchers compared the rates of broken bones among people who had weight loss surgery between 1987 and 2010.

The risk isn't much higher for the first three years after the operation.

But after that, the risk inches up as body-mass-index drops.

Previous research has shown weight loss alone reduces a patients' bone density.

ADHD kids and drugs

More kids with ADHD are using powerful anti- psychotic medications for treatment.

Doctors seem to be prescribing more of these drugs to youngsters - than they are to adults.

The drugs are approved to treat bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and other mental problems.

But they are not approved by the FDA for use on ADHD or other childhood behavioral problems.

Health experts say physicians need to be better educated about the safety and effectiveness of these medications.
