Dr. Robin Perry at the St. Vincent Family Health Clinic says more and more people are coming in with sinus infections. These can be cause by anything that interferes with airflow into the sinuses and the drainage of mucus.

A sinus infection is bacterial and can last longer than a few days.

So here's what to look for:
  • Headache
  • Low grade fever
  • Facial and ear tenderness
  • Fatigue
  • Cloudy nasal drainage
  • A sore throat and cough
Treatments include, for starters, blow your nose. Prescribed antihistamines can also help. Warm, moist heat like a warm shower will help you feel better. Drink clear fluids and be sure to wash your hands.

Go see your doctor if your symptoms don't resolve after 72 hours.

One of the most common ailments this time of year -- that itchy poison ivy.

Symptoms of a poison ivy - a rash starts showing up within 12 to 48 hours -- and can last two to three weeks. It includes redness, itching, swelling and blisters.

One of the most important things to remember -- don't' scratch it!!

This can transfer the oil to other parts of your body -- or even spread the oil to another person.

See your doctor if the rash is severe or widespread and if you have a fever of 100 or more.
