LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The Arkansas attorney general approved wording of a proposed November ballot item that would legalize casino gambling and rejected another that would reduce the number of signatures that backers of ballot proposals need.

Attorney General Dustin McDaniel's office on Wednesday approved wording of a measure that would allow casino gambling in Crittenden, Franklin, Miller and Pulaski counties. The opinion was sought by Peter G. Kumpe for Nancy Todd's Poker Palace and Entertainment Venues LLC.

The proposed constitutional amendment would require 77,133 signatures of registered voters.

McDaniel's office found the wording too ambiguous in a proposal that would reduce the signature requirements for state and local ballot initiatives.

Constitutional amendments need signatures equal to 10 percent of the number of voters in the last gubernatorial election. Initiated acts require 8 percent.
