LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe is leaving open the possibility that Arkansas may run its own insurance exchange under the federal health care law, after initially saying the state would seek a partnership model.

A spokesman for Beebe told The Associated Press on Friday that Beebe told the Obama administration this week that Arkansas planned to partner with the federal government on an insurance exchange. But spokesman Matt DeCample said Beebe planned to tell officials that Arkansas may decide to seek a state-run exchange.

DeCample said Beebe wants to see if there's legislative support for a state-run exchange now that the federal government has extended the deadline for a decision to next month. Beebe had decided on the partnership after Republican lawmakers blocked legislation for a state-run exchange.
