LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — The presidential campaign of Texas Gov. Rick Perry has announced more than two dozen endorsements from Arkansas lawmakers and party officials.
Perry's campaign said Thursday that the governor had been endorsed by Arkansas Land Commissioner John Thurston and 19 state legislators.
Among the legislators is state Rep. David Sanders, who organized an effort among lawmakers urging Perry to run.
Republican National Committee member Reta Hamilton and the local GOP chairmen in Ashley, Benton, Pulaski and Sebastian counties also endorsed Perry.
Perry is seen as one of two primary contenders for the Republican nomination to face President Barack Obama in 2012. The other, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, was endorsed on Wednesday by U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin and Lt. Gov. Mark Darr.
