LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A Washington, D.C.-based group says Arkansas has denied low-income residents the opportunity to register to vote, and Secretary of State Mark Martin's office says he is looking into the claim.

The nonprofit group Project Vote says it complained to Martin's office and two state agencies about voter registration forms not being made available to residents when they register vehicles or receive federal health or nutrition assistance.

Martin spokesman Alex Reed said a letter sent on behalf of the Arkansas NAACP arrived on Tuesday and that the office will address the complaints. Reed noted that the examples cited by the group were from 2010, before Martin took office.

Reed says training sessions take place regularly and can be used to address any deficiencies identified by the group.

what a bunch of crappola....If someone isn't competent enough to figure out how to register to vote on their own without a big sign flashing them in the welfare line, then they shouldn't be voting! There shouldn't be voting encouragement in public assistance offices anyway. My own opinion is that if you are a career welfare taker, you shouldn't be able to vote until you start working and paying taxes with your own earned money..all they do is vote for more handouts..getting tired of working so that others don't have to.

Add it to the request options that the PO provides- their at everyones door- the way this reads it sounds like they want to absent vote and not just register?
