LITTLE ROCK, AR - A bill giving churches the option to allow handguns is now one step away from the governor's desk.

The House judiciary committee passed Senate Bill 71 on a voice vote Thursday.

Sponsor Sen. Bryan King (R-Green Forest) says the bill gives houses of worship the option to allow members with concealed carry permits to bring guns into a churches.

The bill will go before the House for final passage next week.

When I moved back to Ark after retiring from the military I applied for my Concealed Carry License and was surprised to see Churches on the prohibits list. Being private property one would think the owners would have the right to decide. As far as the 2nd Amendment being a "Gift from God"? Well, one can believe that if they like because thru our Founding Fathers our Right to Bear Arms was given and because they were God fearing men then you can say it was a gift from God. For me, I spent 20 years defending all the Rights you so enjoy and while you express your Right to Free Speech I'll continue to express my Right to Bear Arms. If you don't like it you have the God given right to move somewhere else!

Surprised you commented on this story. Didn't think you were the church going type; but I may have been wrong. One, it's not a gift, it's a right as in the Bill of Rights. Two, it wasn't from God, it was from our Founding Fathers. Several in the church I am currently attending, and thinking about moving my membership to, carry during service; as agreed upon by the leaders of the church. I leave mine in the truck. Parking lot is patroled during services. Wasn't it last year a congregation was robbed during service? Scum will rob anyone these days; but it won't happen at this church.
