Arkansan Charlie Askew Reflects on Idol Experience

Now Charlie has moved on, using American Idol as a spring board, he's working on new music

LITTLE ROCK, AR- Remember Charlie Askew?

It was quite a ride for the Little Rock native on the American Idol stage.

Charlie made quite an impression on the judges, some good, some not so good.

But one thing is for sure, he created a mystique that left Idol fans in Arkansas just dying to know more about Charlie.

He initially took the American Idol stage by storm, quickly becoming one of the judges' favorites, making it all the way to the top 20 with his music and quirkiness.

"It was one of the most grueling, but one the best decision I ever made in my life.

I had some rough patches in my life that I don't really vent about ever, or talk about.

Performing is where I release all of my pressure and emotion and tensions and what not."
Now Charlie has moved on, using American Idol as a spring board, he's working on new music.

"When people listen to it, I don't want them to know exactly what they're listening to as far as genre."

Some people believe Charlie has a bright future in entertainment, including American Idol winner, and Arkansan Kris Allen, who offers advice.

"Don't get discouraged.

There are a lot of people who'll tell you you can't make it or you're not good enough and that's just not true," says Allen.

" I appreciate the sentiment.  I really do. I had a lot of fun on American Idol. But in the end was it the right fit?  I don't know.  I don't think so."

Now Charlie is back in California, there's no word, however, if he'll be brought back for the finale.

He's hoping to record an album, and get some singing gigs in the near future.
