Arkansas Tornado Count on Thursday Could Reach 12

At least three reported in Polk County.
LITTLE ROCK, AR - Damage assessments and storm surveys are underway across Arkansas after severe weather Thursday that stretched into Friday morning.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Little Rock says there may have been as many as a dozen tornadoes yesterday afternoon and evening.

Three of the suspected tornadoes struck in Polk County at Cove, Hatfield, and east of Wickes.

Others include:
  • Oden (Montgomery County) - home destroyed, two people hurt
  • Amity (Clark County) to Bonnerdale (Hot Spring County) and Meyers (Garland County) - three people hurt at Amity
  • Near Brady Mountain Recreation Area (Garland County) - downed a lot of trees and power lines
  • Paron (Saline County) - church heavily damaged
  • Maumelle (Pulaski County) - trees down on homes and in backyards
  • Brinkley (Monroe County) - two tractor trailer trucks toppled on I-40
Heavy rain also fell during the outbreak:
  • Mena (Polk County) to Hot Springs (Garland County), Little Rock (Pulaski County) and Brinkley (Monroe County) -  Two to more than five inches of rain fell.
  • Little Rock (Pulaski County) received 3.35 inches in six-hour period that ended at one o'clock Friday morning
  • Maumelle (Pulaski County) - report of 2 to 3 inches of rain in 45 minutes
High water covered roads in Polk and Scott Counties, with people rescued from homes. Highway 71 was closed for a time between Waldron (Scott County) and Mena (Polk County).

Two feet of water was over some roads in Hot Springs Village (Garland County). Alum Fork of the Saline River was flowing across Highway 9 northwest of Rubicon (Saline County). There was flooding of roads in the Little Rock (Pulaski County) area as well.
