ROGERS, Ark. (AP) — U.S. Army Corps of Engineers representatives will meet with local historians to discuss the future of a once-thriving resort town that is now partially submerged in a western Arkansas lake.
Corps of Engineers program manager Lauren McCroskey told the Northwest Arkansas Times the group is set to meet Tuesday afternoon at Monte Ne near Rogers.
Businessman William Harvey built the resort in the early 1900s. Historians say the resort had its own railroad and two of the largest log cabin hotels in the country.
Most of the property was flooded when Beaver Lake was built in the mid-1960s. The only structures remaining include a tower and amphitheater seating.
McCroskey says information gathered by Corps historians will be used to determine whether to raze or preserve the Monte Ne tower.
