LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A dental foundation is donating $2 million to support dental programs at Arkansas Children's Hospital.
Officials announced Wednesday that the contribution from the Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation will support dental clinic operations, mobile dental care, a dental sealant program and oral health literacy efforts.
The hospital has opened a new dental clinic, which will be named the Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation Dental Clinic, in honor of the gift.
Dr. James Koonce with Arkansas Children's Hospital says tooth decay is the single most common chronic childhood disease, and is five times more common than asthma. Koonce says oral health problems can lead to other serious medical and psychological problems for children.
Officials say the clinic is expected to record 14,000 patient visits in its first year.
