LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Former Arkansas Lt. Gov. Bill Halter is considering a run for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in 2014 after Congressman Mike Ross opted against a bid.
Halter spokesman Bud Jackson told The Associated Press that Halter has been flooded with calls urging him to run after Ross announced Monday he wouldn't seek the party's nomination in 2014. Jackson said Halter is seriously considering running, but did not have a timeline for a decision.
Halter briefly ran for governor in 2006 before dropping out of that race to run for lieutenant governor. He won and successfully pushed for the state constitutional amendment creating a state-run lottery for college scholarships.
Halter opted against a re-election bid in 2010 and instead made an unsuccessful bid for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate.
