Fort Smith Police Arrest Home Invasion/Shooting Suspect

Apartment resident was shot in the leg during incident last week.
FORT SMITH, AR - A man has been arrested in Fort Smith in connection to a home invasion that led to a shooting last week.

It happened June 3 at the Village South apartment complex on Towson Avenue.

Police say John D. Smith, 42, was shot at least once in the leg while his apartment was being robbed.

It happened after Smith heard a knock on his door and looked though the peephole, but didn't see anyone. He then opened the door and that's when a man forced his way into the apartment, according to the incident report.

The man demanded Smith's money before shooting him, police said.

Investigators later identified the suspect as Daniel Elon Bell, 25. An arrest warrant was issued for Bell, and he was considered possibly armed and dangerous.

Detectives got a tip that Bell was at a home in the 900 block of North 35th Street. The SWAT Team responded and took Bell into custody.

He is being held at the Sebastian County Detention Center.
